Smoked salmon appetizer board
I absolutely love creating crostini and appetizer boards! From a classic Spanish charcuterie to this Asian appetizer setup, I think there’s something beautiful about assembling miscellaneous ingredients to create a well-paired board.
I constantly find myself inspired by Asian appetizers and Asian foods. Salmon sushi are some of my favorite foods, so I took the inspiration to create this board and find flavors that work well with smoked salmon.
For this salmon appetizer board, I was gifted some Smoked Salmon platters from Blue Circle Foods. Of course, they were assembled beautifully when they arrived, but I had to rip into it and play around with some flavors to create this Smoked Salmon Appetizer Board.
What to serve with salmon
If you are looking for a traditional lox recipe, a cream cheese bagel with salmon and capers is definitely the way to go. For this salmon appetizer, however, I chose to add the following ingredients to the board:
- Base crostini: I use gluten-free baguettes, but any cracker or small bread will do
- Fresh, green vegetables: cucumber, avocado, and edamame
- Sauces: gluten-free soy sauce, chili garlic paste, and toasted sesame oil
- Toppings: black sesame seeds and flaked sea salt
How to make the perfect crostini
There are four important parts to every crostini: the base, the spread, the “hero”, and the toppings.
Every drool-worthy crostini app has a good base! I chose to use bread, but you can use your favorite gluten-free crackers too.
For the spread, I used smashed edamame, thinly-sliced cucumbers, and mashed avocado. Using vegetables creates a few different healthier salmon appetizers. You could also use cream cheese, but for the dairy-intolerant, veggies are an easy way to go!
Finishing this smoked salmon appetizer
The smoked salmon! Roll it up into pretty salmon flowers, or layer it flat on the crostini. Either way, it will all taste delicious.
Add chili garlic paste, sesame oil, or gluten-free soy sauce to enhance the elements of an Asian appetizer. Top with black sesame seeds and flaked sea salt, and enjoy!
This smoked salmon appetizer is best served cold.
Tips for creating simple appetizers
Find your favorite flavors, and then find the simplest way to put them together. This smoked salmon appetizer may look super complicated, but that’s just a matter of assembly! That’s why crostini are my favorite.
