Hi! I’m Anna, the girl behind Whisks & Wildflowers. To answer the most pressing question you probably have first, pictured above is my 2-year-old McNab Shepherd, Beau! He’s my pride and joy and I could talk about him for years, but moving on.
I’m originally from Northwest Indiana up by Chicago, but moved to California after graduating from Boston University in 2017. I graduated with a dual-degree in Neuroscience and Human Physiology, and medicine is my current / permanent career field of choice. Full-time right now, I do neurosurgery research at Stanford Med, studying the neural circuitry of the spinal cord in mice. Hopefully soon, I’ll start medical school and continue on my path towards becoming a surgeon.
This blog started as my creative gig, and has somehow developed into my side hustle. Part-time, I’m a food photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area, namely in Palo Alto. I work with a lot of fantastic start-ups that revolve around food, and handle a lot of their marketing / advertising photography. Otherwise, I’m hanging out in my kitchen, sneaking batter licks to my dog (unless it’s chocolate – then he just gets a treat) and scribbling new ideas into my recipe book.
If you haven’t already noticed, I love cooking, baking, recipe development, and food photography. I started working in the kitchen when I was six, and I asked my mom if I could help peel garlic for salsa. Thus, the beginning of my obsession with food. Though my favorite kitchen work revolves around cooking, I’ve recently taken a liking to baking – partially because it’s hard as hell to master, and this girl loooooves a challenge. I’ve been at it for just about a year now, and I can’t wait to see this page continue to grow!
